What began as a heartfelt birthday wish by our IT Director, Sir Jason Juan, blossomed into a meaningful outreach that brought joy and hope to the lives of children in need. Inspired to celebrate life in a more impactful way, Sir Jason rallied the IT Department around a simple but powerful mission: Bringing Smiles to Young Hearts.
With this vision, the team organized a special celebration for the children of the Child Care Center Orphanage in Hernani, Eastern Samar. The joyful day was marked with everyone's favorite treat—Jollibee Chickenjoy and spaghetti—served to 30 children and staff members. Beyond the festivities, the team distributed slippers, school supplies, clothes, biscuits, and sacks of rice—essentials to support the children both at home and in school.
This initiative was made possible through the generous hearts across departments. The IT team led the way, with contributions from HR Recruitment Director Michael Pinto, Account Management Director Jay Roger Tibig, and several leaders and staff from Tacloban HQ, headed by SD Ailyn Labajo and Engagement Ambassador April Shaine Cordero. Special thanks also go to Chairman Brian Hiener and CEO David Lemasters for ensuring the team’s safe journey.
The team spent heartfelt moments with the children—talking, bonding, and hearing their stories. They also connected with the dedicated staff of the orphanage, including Social Worker Jhoanna Marie Autor, Property Custodian Romeo Autor Jr., and the passionate Senior Pastor and Chairman of the Board, Ptr. Noli Opiniano, who shared the orphanage’s humble beginnings and ongoing mission.

As the visit drew to a close, Sir Jason felt there was still more to be done. Moved by the children's stories, he committed to sponsor one out of the six orphanage’s college students—and Director Jay Roger Tibig, although unable to join the visit, pledged to continue donating a sack of rice every month. Taking it one step further, Sir Jason asked the children for their Christmas wish list, believing that, with help from more kind-hearted individuals, they can make those wishes come true this December.
The experience left a lasting impression not only on the children but also on our VSS volunteers. The sense of purpose, the heartfelt connections, and the natural beauty of Canhugas Nature Park, where the celebration took place, inspired many to return—not just for the scenic views, but to continue the mission of giving.
This outreach has sparked something special – a movement of compassion and collaboration that we hope will ripple far beyond Hernani. As the orphanage’s staff shared, the kindness shown today may one day empower these children to help others in return.
“For when an ear heard [my name mentioned], it called me happy and fortunate;
And when an eye saw [me], it testified for me [approvingly],
Because I rescued the poor who cried for help,
And the orphan who had no helper.”

As the leaders in the Child Care Center in Hernani, Eastern Samar is always willing to collaborate, let’s continue to bring smiles to young hearts—because even the smallest act of kindness can spark a lifetime of hope. Praying they will pay it forward and make their world a different place to live in.
