Gasa sa Gugma: Honoring Every Life with Love and Dignity

On March 14, 2026, our newest site, VSS Cebu, marked a meaningful milestone as it launched its first-ever Missions outreach, embracing the company’s culture of compassion and service to the community. With hearts set on sharing God’s love, the team chose to serve at Gasa sa Gugma (Gift of Love), a home dedicated to caring for the dying destitute. The facility currently shelters 51 elderly residents aged 70 to 90, along with seven individuals aged 13 and above who are living with mental health conditions and are in need of sustained care and support.

Led by Site Director Maria Eliza “Boots” Cruz, the Cebu team came prepared not only with essential donations but also with willing hearts ready to serve. They provided sacks of rice, adult diapers, face masks, alcohol, vitamins, and hygiene kits—items that would help meet the daily needs of the residents. More than the material support, the team shared their time through fellowship, engaging with the elderly over meals from Jollibee and bringing joy through the lively presence of the Jollibee mascot. Laughter filled the room, and for a moment, the burdens of life were replaced with smiles, connection, and a sense of belonging.

For many of the volunteers, this outreach was a deeply moving first experience. They expressed how honored they felt to be part of a faith-based organization that goes beyond business success to intentionally create impact in the lives of others. The experience reinforced their appreciation for leaders who champion purpose, compassion, and service, reminding them that their work is part of a greater mission. It was a powerful realization that in serving others, they themselves were also being transformed.

The visit also highlighted the importance of preserving dignity in every stage of life, especially for those who may feel forgotten or overlooked by society. Each conversation, each smile, and each act of kindness became a testament to God’s love reaching even the most vulnerable. The team witnessed firsthand how simple gestures can restore hope and affirm the worth of every individual. This outreach served as a reminder that true success is measured not only by achievements but by the lives we touch along the way.

With hearts ignited for service, they are embracing their calling as ambassadors of Christ—committed to being His hands and feet in a world that longs for love, hope, and compassion. As they move forward, they carry with them the joy of giving, the lessons of humility, and the unwavering mission to share God’s love with those in need.
